Grass, Glorious Grass

Posted by Priscilla on October 31, 2015

I have been waiting for this day ever since we moved into the house. I was not a fan of the rocks in the front yard but as Roger says on This Old House, the best time to plant grass is the fall. As soon as September came, we called a landscaper to take up all the rocks and put down some soil and grass seed.

An image to refresh your memory:

The house just seems bleak with gray rocks for some reason.

Drum roll, please…

And now grass!

Glorious, glorious grass! The picture above shows the hay that the landscaper had put over the soil. For about a week it was straight dirt and I think that was to keep it from getting muddy. I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of that since we went out of town but when we came back the little grasslings had popped up. The picture below is from today after Mike raked up a bunch of the hay. Mike is also fixing our porch light which went out recently.

Mike also moved some of the rose bushes and we put some mulch around them so they are nicely offset from the grass.

The Furball

You might notice the little ball of fur that is on the grass. That’s our new puppy Thambi! He is a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier that we just picked up a couple of weeks ago from a breeder. His name means little brother in Tamil and is pronounced Thumb-bee. I will have to try extremely hard not to turn this into a Thambi blog; I already have over 50 pictures of him and take about 10 more each day. But rest assured that I will keep this focused on the house although I can’t guarantee he won’t pop up every now and then in posts or pictures…

This is the little guy on Gotcha Day. He’s 8 weeks old in this pic:
