Hello friends! I am going to attempt to update more regularly. You will see the glacial pace in which we are updating the country house, in shorter bursts! These pics are from this summer; I am catching up to present day.
You may remember that the moment we moved in, Mike immediately started to rip up the carpets. To be fair, the carpets were white, old, and hella stained:
Here is what they used to look like, although this pic was from the listing and the sellers agent made it look more pristine than it was:
What they look like now, after the jump!
And here is what it looks like sans carpet! The good news is that the subfloor is in decent condition.
Mike pulled up carpet in the dining room as well:
We actually had to pause taking up carpet for several weeks after this because we didn’t have a dumpster. But we didn’t have to wait too long for floors to be delivered. We had picked out some options before we closed so they arrived just a month or so afterwards. It was A LOT of boxes. This is maybe a quarter of the boxes.
We started some demo work with base boards and the kitchen as well. The first nice piece of furniture we bought was a ludicrously expensive bed for Thambi. Of course, the puppy comes first! He loves this bed at our normal house so of course he had to have another one in the country house. But while we were demoing, it gave him a nice place to take a nap amidst all the construction. He is really turning into a good construction doggo!
Deck Furniture
While the inside of the house is a construction zone, we try to make the most of the big deck, particularly in the late Summer. I took advantage of July 4th and Labor Day sales on patio furniture to get some real deals!
We bought a conversation set from Walmart, which is very comfortable. The sofa is actually inside as we don’t have a real
indoor sofa yet. But we have a couple comfy chairs. Thambi is enjoying hogging one for himself, per usual:
We also got a patio table from Overstock.
Mike took a pic of me but it’s hard to see me under the giant umbrella (which came from Wayfair).
Try to ignore the bush which has wildly grown out of control. Trimming it is on our very long to do list.
With deck furniture, we could finally have a nice dinner watching the sunset on a pleasant September evening:
And now…a puppy picture.
Thambi is slowly getting used to the new digs. On this particular day, he wanted to play tug in the yard while the sun set. I was happy to oblige! You can also really see the Blue in the Blue Ridge Mountains :)
