Forest Creatures!

Country Edition

Hello friends! I started a new job in May and apparently that coincided with the last time I posted, as the new job has been a bit intense. But I think in 2024, it should calm down a bit and certainly this holiday season is giving me a chance to catch up on some long overdue posts! This covers some wallpaper work that we did back in February.

Mike and I did a bit of peel-n-stick wallpaper in our DC townhouse a few years ago and it wasn’t too bad! I wanted the guest bedrooms in the country house to have a bit of a theme and this wallpaper I found on Spoonflower really embodied the Animal Theme I was going for! I was debating getting some wallpaper with farm animals, which perhaps would have been more country, but as we aren’t in a real farmhouse (although our neighbors do have horses, chickens, and cows), I decided to go with these forest creatures which one could find in nearby Shenandoah Park. I also like the black, bold background against the sort of whimsical illustrations.

We decided to only do 1 wall so the room wouldn’t be too dark and also I don’t want to wallpaper that much. Mike helped me with the first panel but after that it was pretty straight forward doing the rest of the wall. One challenge I didn’t anticipate is how difficult it is to line up panels when the pattern is not geometric. I was effectively trying to line up deer feet, fox tails, and individual flower petals. It was a bit tedious. But in the end, it came out pretty well!

This was also my first time wallpapering around a window. I was particularly proud of how I got this little sliver of wallpaper in between the corner and the window trim. The owl approves!

And finally a couple of shots with everything pulled together! The guest room is officially ready!

And now…a sunset?

I know, I know. Normally I have a puppy picture but as I guess I forgot to take one this time, I am sharing a pic I took the day after I put up the wallpaper. The view of the Blue Ridge Mountains is the main reason we bought the house! Normally, this part of the view is partially obstructed but in winter with the leaves gone, it sure is pretty! Our swivel recliners are just perfect for watching the sun go down when it’s freezing outside and toasty inside :)
